December 29 2009OKS Instructor Chile UpdateHello from Pucon, Chile,
We have hit the one month mark on our trip to Chile in search of steep creeks and big water. We rented a house in the middle of Pucon that has been HQ for the first half of our adventure. So far we have been hitting up all of the local rivers within our reach including a trip up north to the beautiful Rio Claro just south of Santiago. Just yesterday was the first annual Pucon River Festival Palguin Race, where Airborn really made a statement. OKS instructor and Airborn veteran places 1st amongst some of the best paddlers in the world including Evan and Ian Garcia, Brian Kirk, Tyler Curtis, Jared Seiler and many more. Stephen Forester (also OKS instructor and Airborn veteran) placed 5th just missing finals by inches to Keegan. It was a great event, very well organized, and an incredible river. Next stop for the crew, as soon as Christmas is over, is south down to the Futalefu for some of the most famous big water runs in the world.
My trip has been cut a little short due to multiple blown eardrums on the same ear. It started with a solid hit after running the 70 footer on the Middle Palguin and tilting my head on the landing, taking the full impact on my left ear. Again blew my ear on a clean 20 footer on the RIo Claro, marking the end of my holiday. This has been the most incredible trip of my life with beautiful weather and unbelievable rivers. You truly have to be here to believe some of the huge canyons and waterfalls this country has to offer.
