January 6 2008KEENERS IN CHINATravelling "kayak" high school NEW RIVER ACADEMY travels to excotic places ever semester in search of great paddling and a stimulating learning environment. The Fall Semester starts with Wilderness Tours on the Ottawa River and follows the warm weather south. At mid term, vans are exchanged for jets and its off to places like Chile, New Zealand etc. This Fall’s trip was to China.
Near Lijiang in west China is the headwaters of the Mekong, Salween and Yangtze as they flow out of the Tibetan Plateau. NRA students paddle and study as they earn high school credits. Joining NRA were Keeners Katie Kowalski, David Ruhle and Eli Speigel.
New River Academy is a wonderful experience for teens who want to combine their passion for paddling with their sense of adventure, all while completing their accredited high school courses.
