July 3 2008

There is no doubt Canada’s National Team is a force to be reckoned with. Team Trials in Chambly this past April proved that Canadians will be on the podium in Thun, Switzerland in September 2009. We know our Canadians will look good on the water, now we want to ensure they look good off the water. As you may be aware, Freestyle, unlike Sprint and Slalom, receives no government funding. Not only is making the team and athletic accomplishment, it is also a financial one. Training, equipment, travel is very expensive. Switzerland is hardly a budget destination. But OKS and the paddling community is here to help. Last weekend Team Members donated their time to a weekend of clinics at Wilderness Tours on the Ottawa River. It was greatly supported by the paddling community with all proceeds going to the Team. SOME FEEDBACK: Hi Joe, I would like to thank you for the amazing time I had at WT this past weekend. You gave myself and everyone else who attended the paddle with the pro’s weekend a chance to paddle with some of most amazing paddlers in the world. Everyone was terrific and excellent, on and off the river. I hope you’ll have more events like this in the future. Great job on organizing such a great event, please thank everyone who made this happen and thank you again for allowing this event to take place at your great resort. Thanks, M Dear Mr. Kowalski, I would like to offer my profound gratitude for hosting Meet the Pros Weekend. The members of Coureurs de Bois, our local paddling club here in Ottawa, were present in great numbers, 23 members in all. We immensely enjoyed being received by Wilderness Tours, enjoyed your hospitality, your facilities and your fine food. The coaching was way above our expectations! Your son Joel met us at the start and made us feel right at home. Ryan Whetung coordinated the weekend, made sure we were always attended too, and it went off with a resounding success. The 80’s theme party Saturday night was fantastic! I would like to underline and add special thanks for Guillaume Larue and Dominique Gauthier for their fantastic coaching! I truly hope that Wilderness Tours will repeat this event, so that we and you can continue to support the Canadian Freestyle Kayaking Team and give them the respect and support they so decidedly deserve. The next event will be attended by many more members, much due to the positive feedback we will give this original event. Thank you again for your outstanding hospitality! Your truly, Paul Potvin Coureurs de Bois Executive member Mr. Kowalski, I want to let you know that every minute of last weekend was thoroughly amazing. This is my opinion, but I do know that it is shared by everyone who participated. Thank you for inviting us to such an event! Could you please transmit my thanks, again, to Keegan, Guillaume and Dom for taking the time to paddle with us and offer so much welcome guidance to us? And please thank Ryan for such a well organised event. Now, for me, there is a whole new world of things to try and practice on the river! Best regards, --Christian
